Baking macaroons

By June 29, 2014 , , ,

In a true blogger cliche, I have fallen in love with the pastel macaroons that have swept through numerous blogs, often accompanied with snaps of Paris, dreamy Vespas and vintage bicycles.  To make my own, I used one of Lorraine Pascal's recipes and although my attempts are far off Laudree standards, I was much more pleased with this batch- my previous ones were fairly disheartening to say the least ;) These ones ended up being a very pale pink, so I dusted them with gold shimmer to give them a pretty lustre before serving them piled high, filled with whipped cream and scattered with dried rose petals.
I was a little concerned that these were going to be one of those recipes that looks oh-so-pretty but taste disappointing, but after tasting them they are the perfect treat for tea parties and curing a hint of wanderlust. I would describe them as light meringues with slightly chewy centres and hints of almond, excellent for the summer days coming straight out of the fridge-with a bunch of wildflowers as a table centre piece too, of course!
